Our Local Food Sources

Since 2017, When We Shine Foundation‘s efforts in creative place-making on Maui, have been our local food systems, including focus on developing better food security for our island, and accessibility of affordable, healthy organic foods for all of our communities.

We have partnered and worked on numerous projects and garden work days with Grow Some Good (GSG), Maui School Garden Network (MSGN), Blue Zones Maui and our local Farm to School Hui to artfully activate, expand and revitalize school and community gardens.

When We Shine Foundation‘s aim is to add value to the programs and projects these organizations already have in place. We do this in numerous ways. For example, we volunteer and help canvas for other volunteers on garden work days, we share their events schedules on our social media, we give micro-grants for specific jobs and projects that support their mission and we add arts and creativity into their public engagements.

We are currently partnering with H.E.A.L. Coalition and the Maui Nui Food Alliance while also preparing our 2019-2022 Strategic Plan and goals with specific projects aligned with them. We will be posting progress updates as they are determined.
