Nuestro Valle, Everyone Belongs
Susana Browne, RaeTakemoto and Melinda Caroll flew across the pond to create a songwriting and music video program at Mid-Valley Elementary and experienced Arts integration in a Spanish Immersion School.Mid-Valley Elementary is a bi-lingual with over 80% of its students of hispanic origin who have settled in this abundant farming and fruit belt of Oregon and of the nation.
The song they wrote describes their life in both the school and with their families in the surrounding mountains and rivers, called Nuestro Valle, Everyone Belongs! It tells of the value of being able to speak 2 different languages and celebrates their unique heritage and diversity. This project experience was our sincere honor to contribute to arts integration and place-based learning, while building strong community in an entirely new environment!
